A special moment in history
In 1625, the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands was engaged in a tough battle with Spain. During the failed attempt to depose Breda, Prince Maurice died. Frederick Henry was then appointed his successor in Waalwijk. Thus, the city played an unexpectedly central role in a crucial phase of the Eighty Years' War.
