Eighty years young Fred de la Bretonière turns eighty at the end of this year. For more than fifty years he has been at the forefront of Dutch shoe designers. That, of course, needs to be celebrated.

Neskrid celebrates 100 years and presents itself in the Shoe Quarter's Spotlight Cabinet. In 100 years, the Brabant family business Neskrid has grown from an artisanal shoemaker to the specialist in the field of multifunctional (semi-)orthopedic footwear solutions.

Michel Gallus is a shoe designer who enjoys challenging the shoe industry by designing modular shoes. An undergraduate student at the Design Academy Eindhoven, he graduated in 2020 with his project HIDE - Sneakers made entirely of leather. His current work uses both digital and hands-on techniques to design and make shoes.

The Schoenenkwartier will again participate in this year's Dutch Design Week from Oct. 19 to 27 with an exhibition at Microlab Hall, Strijp S, Eindhoven.

The history of the museum goes back to 1954. In that year, the "Ancient Museum for the Shoe and Leather Industry" was founded as a result of the successful exhibition SLEM (shoes, leather and fashion). Here, avid collector and teacher of shoemaking, Antoon Hendriks showed a part of his personal collection which garnered the support of local shoe manufacturers in founding a museum.

Laurindo is a fashion designer, historian and owner of the socially social and avant-garde label LAURINDO LOVE. Laurindo: "I see the outfits I present in the Shoe Quarter as resilient manifestations. This is how I try to achieve respect and empathy for other cultures and their dressing behaviors. With a clear link to the slavery past."

Meet Gerla: a 120-year-old family business. Founded in 1904 as a tannery by Mr. Laureijssen. Then, in cooperation with his sons, developed into a unique shoe-clog manufacturer.

Maxim Verheul is a Dutch shoe designer who draws his inspiration from Dutch cultural heritage, in this case "the wooden shoe. His research at Schoenenkwartier focuses on the Dutch wooden shoe and the craft of making wooden shoes by hand
