Okke the SpiderÂ
Okke the Spider is the cheerful children's mascot of the Schoenenkwartier in Waalwijk. This curious blue spider travels around the world, collecting the most beautiful and special shoes. Okke himself has eight legs, all with different (hand) shoes. The adventures are so exciting that a book has been written about Okke. The book will be published in October 2025 and is especially for children up to the age of 10. But first Okke has a vacation this summer at the Grand Hotel of Waalwijk, next to the Shoe Quarter.
Looking for Okke in Waalwijk - find the golden ticket!
Throughout Waalwijk, mini-Okke's have popped up. They hide in shop windows and other surprising places, especially where many children come.
Among all these spiders there is one special specimen: a mini-Okke with a golden stamp of the Shoe Quarter on its belly. You can recognize this spider by its size (slightly larger than the ordinary spiders) and by one leg in a different color. This is the so-called golden ticket.
Anyone who finds this spider and turns it in at the Shoe Quarter counter will win free admission to the museum and Grand Hotel Okke the Spider for the whole family.*
The promotion runs through Aug. 31, 2025.
So quickly bring the spider you found with the gold stamp to the Shoe Quarter and report to the front desk.

Okke's vacation at the Grand Hotel
This summer, Okke is resting. Okke has a few weeks off from all the adventures he has been on. After all his travels, Okke is taking a break at the Grand Hotel, located next to the Shoe Quarter. Okke has brought all his suitcases full of souvenirs to this special hotel... Would you like to see them and guess which countries Okke has been to? At the reception of the Grand Hotel you will be welcomed by a "bellboy" who will give you the key to your hotel room. Each hotel room tells a story about the shoes Okke brought back from another country. Okke has even heard of "hidden shoes" in old buildings and set out to find out if the Grand Hotel also has a hidden shoe... Will you join the adventure?
