The Shoe Quarter is closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day

The Shoe Quarter
highlights history and shines a light on the future

The Shoe Quarter highlights the history and adds luster to the future. We cast our gaze far beyond that of curator of the rich past of the leather and shoe industry. As a platform, workshop, study center and laboratory, we want to occupy a unique, special position in the cultural landscape. We connect heritage and technology with fashion, design and innovation. While the leather and shoe industry has an image of being a polluter, we also present sustainable alternatives. We outline the opportunities that are plentiful and continue to innovate.

FOR ALL

Shoes are part of the identity for young and old, for rich and poor, for every color and every individual. The shoe belongs to the world and to everyone. In many forms. This includes multifaceted stories. We want to tell them, we want to make visitors think about 'their' footwear, where it comes from, how it can be made with respect for the world. The Schoenenkwartier is not just about looking and learning, but also about participation and awareness. It also makes us attractive to younger generations.

"With us, it's about more than watching and learning"

In the Shoe Quarter, besides looking and learning, it is about participating and awareness. We want to offer new target groups an entrance to the cultural world and hopefully show them the way to other museums. Because shoes are part of the identity for young and old, for rich and poor, for every color and every individual. The shoe belongs to the world and to everyone. In many forms. This includes many different stories. We want to tell them, we want to make visitors think about 'their' footwear, where it comes from, how it can be made with respect for the world.
