The Shoe Quarter
highlights history and shine the future

The Shoe Quarter illuminates history and shines a light on the future. We cast our gaze far beyond that of curator of the rich past of the leather and shoe industry. As a stage, workshop, study center and laboratory, we want to occupy a distinctive, special position in the cultural landscape. We connect heritage and technology with fashion, design and innovation. Where the leather and shoe industry has an image of being a polluter, we also present the sustainable alternatives. We outline the opportunities that abound and keep renewing ourselves in them.

FOR EVERYONE

Shoes are part of identity for young and old, for rich and poor, for every color and every individual. The shoe belongs to the world and to everyone. In numerous forms. With that comes multifaceted stories. Those we want to tell, we want to make visitors think about 'their' footwear, where it comes from, how it can be made with respect for the world. The Schoenenkwartier is not only about looking and learning, but also about participation and awareness. It also makes us attractive to younger generations.

"With us, it's about more than watching and learning."

In addition to looking and learning, the Shoe Quarter is about participation and awareness. We want to offer new target groups an entrance into the cultural world and hopefully point the way to other museums. Because shoes are part of the identity for young and old, for rich and poor, for every color and every individual. The shoe belongs to the world and to everyone. In numerous forms. That includes multifaceted stories. Those we want to tell, we want to make visitors think about 'their' footwear, where it comes from, how it can be made with respect for the world.
