We are particularly honored to announce that on Tuesday, April 23, Her Majesty Queen Máxima will visit the Shoe Quarter. Museum director Rinske Jurgens will receive Queen Máxima and Mayor Sacha Ausems. The royal visit will focus entirely on craft, design, innovation and entrepreneurship.
VISIT FULL OF ENCOUNTERS
During her visit, Queen Máxima is given a guided tour by volunteers through the exhibition "The History of De Langstraat. She will then visit the new family exhibition 'Put on your daring shoes', which focuses on the question: Who are you? What shoes do you put on and how does that make you feel? By putting on different shoes, slippers or boots, you experience what shoes do to you and how you then look at yourself. Students of elementary school De Vrijhoeve from Sprang Capelle made their own designs for the school project 'Design your naughtiest shoes'. The prize-winning shoe design was created in the shoe lab and presented on a challenging catwalk.
SPRINGBOARD FOR YOUNG TALENT
In the shoe lab, Queen Máxima meets artisan shoemakers, designers and students who work together in this professional workshop and learning place, gathering knowledge, conducting research and, above all, creating. She then gets a tour of the work of artist in residence Maxim Verheul, who wants to reintroduce the wooden shoe as a fashion item.
CENTER FOR DESIGN, INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Finally, Queen Máxima will talk to local companies and entrepreneurs who are active in the leather and footwear industry or have their origins in De Langstraat. The Shoe Quarter stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship in the regional economy from Waalwijk, the heart of De Langstraat.
Tuesday morning, April 23, we will be closed for this private reception. We will reopen our doors to visitors at 2 p.m.
