Magical opening exhibition Shoe Quarter by the Queen's Commissioner Ina Adema

On October 7, the Commissioner of the King, Ina Adema, opened the new exhibition in the Shoe Quarter. In the Commissioner's words, "The heart of the leather and shoe industry beats in Waalwijk. The Schoenenkwartier shows that". In the presence of the Mayor of Waalwijk, Sacha Ausems, and other guests, she was pleasantly surprised by the magic that literally took place in her hands.
"As King's Commissioner, you also learn about things that are completely new, that you've never heard of. Cuir Bouilli, for example!" the Commissioner began her speech. She continued, "Cuir Bouilli is an example of an ancient military application of leather. Watch a movie that features Roman times and you can see it in the armor in which today's actors perform. This Shoe Quarter is a wonderful museum. Not a static presentation but a living museum that interactively shows the past, present and future of the leather and shoe industry. Part of the identity of Waalwijk, it is well worth a visit. I make a big compliment to everyone involved and who made sure it could come into development."
Today, under great interest, with magicians young and old, in the making lab bubbling pans of leather (cuir bouilli) and demonstrating shoemakers, the exhibition The Magic of Cuir Bouilli: from harness to haute couture opened. On view through March 31, 2024 at the Shoe Quarter.
