PODIUM SHOE LAB EDITION 2023

Waalwijk, Jan. 18, 2024 - Shoe designers of the future will present themselves in the Schoenenkwartier from Jan. 26 through April 1. With its eyes full of the future, it is not surprising that there is room for new talent in the Schoenenkwartier. On view are projects by designers Joris de Groot, post graduates Clemens Tomlow, Kristiyan Hiristov and second-year Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) students studio Body Building. The latter group worked for 3 months in the Shoe Lab on their projects. DAE has been collaborating with the Shoe Quarter since 2023 and offers the students time and space to experiment with new materials and techniques, using the knowledge and expertise of the shoe experts in the Shoe Lab and the rich collection of the museum.

The works on display are very diverse in nature. For example, Studio Joris de Groot is in the bodega with the 2000N Pressed Shoe, created from research into the production process of a car interior. Joris developed and printed soles for his shoes in the Shoe Lab. Kristiyan Hiristov has been Artist in Residence at the Bodehuisje of the Shoe Quarter for the past few months, further developing his graduation project "Rapid Foot Evolutions": how the use of biomimicry can be used to design and make shoes using VR design and 3D printing. And Clemens Tomlow's 'Monster under the bed' is a collection of costumes that challenge the viewer to look again from a child's perspective and discover how firmly they themselves are in their shoes. In collaboration with the Shoe Lab, he develops shoes for his monsters. And, of course, there is the work of the DAE's second-year students, studio Body Building

The Shoe Quarter has its eyes firmly fixed on the future and offers an annual stage in January to talented young makers, designers and renowned (shoe) designers. The most talented work of 2023 is presented. In the Shoe Lab it all comes together: innovation, technology, craft, material and design.
