The exhibition Artists in residence
Five designers present the projects they developed over three months using the Shoe Lab, combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative techniques and materials.

DUTCH DESIGN WEEK 2024
DDW is one of Europe's largest design events presents the work and ideas of more than 2,600 designers to more than 350,000 visitors from home and abroad at over 110 venues. DDW focuses on the design of the future and the future of design. The emphasis is on experimentation, innovation and crossovers with special attention to the work and development of young talent. This fits perfectly with the vision of Het SCHOENENKWARTIER.

The exhibition can be visited during DDW at Strijp-S area, Microlab Hall, Kastanjelaan 400, Eindhoven.

Artist in residence: Michel Gallus

Michel Gallus is a shoe designer who enjoys challenging the footwear industry by designing modular shoes. As an undergraduate student at the Design Academy Eindhoven he graduated in 2020 with his project HIDE - Sneakers made entirely of leather. In his current work uses both digital and hands-on techniques to design and make shoes.

70 YEARS OF SHOE QUARTER

The history of the museum goes back to 1954. In that year, the "Ancient Museum for the Shoe and Leather Industry" was founded as a result of the successful exhibition SLEM (shoes, leather and fashion). Here, avid collector and teacher of shoemaking, Antoon Hendriks showed a part of his personal collection which garnered the support of local shoe manufacturers in founding a museum.
